The Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the Cashew Nut Board (CBT) is implementing a program to involve young people in agriculture, Building a Better Tomorrow-BBT-Korosho ). In the BBT-Cashew program, SUA-MoA-CBT has prepared a plan to recruit 500 agricultural extension officers and assistant extension officers for a period of one year for a special program to develop the cashew crop in the country.
The program will be implemented in the 2024/2025 agricultural season in preparation for the production of raw cashews in the 2025/2026 season. This program will be implemented in the regions of Mtwara, Lindi Ruvuma (Tunduru) and Pwani. BBT is implemented through various strategies and projects in the value chain of crops and some of its goals are to increase employment for 20,000 youth and women through skills development activities (internship), to establish 12,000 economic activities at the village level including the cultivation of large farms (Block farms) by the year 2030.
As part of the strategy to strengthen extension services here in the country, the Ministry of Agriculture has also planned to implement a special program of extension services through young graduates (BBT Agricultural Extension Entrepreneurship Scheme-BBT AEES). Through BBT-AEES, five hundred (500) positions are required to be filled by qualified graduates in the fields of agriculture to provide extension services in the cashew crop in the order of temporary employment as follows.
