On 23rd November 2023 , it has been reported that Lameck Ditto has Filed a 6 billion Lawsuit against Dstv Owners Multichoice
The Bongo Flava performer Lameck Ditto has filed a lawsuit in the High Court of Dar es Salaam, requesting Sh 6 billion in damages from MultiChoice Tanzania for allegedly utilizing his song for promotional reasons without getting his permission.
In addition, Ditto has claimed Sh200 million in general damages and 25% interest beginning on the day he filed the claim from MultiChoice, the company that operates the pay-TV service DSTV.
In front of Judge Hamidu Mwanga, Ditto submitted nine exhibits in the case; this process took six hours.
Regarding the usage of his song in the company's advertising for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign, the singer filed a complaint with the organization.
Ditto, whose real name is Dotto Bernard Bwakeya, has asked the Dar es Salaam Regional High Court to order the company to pay him Sh6 billion in compensation for using the song 'Nchi Yangu', which he claimed was his, in their commercials without his consent.
Ditto stated in his testimony, accompanied by his attorney, Ms. Elizabeth Mlemeta, that MultiChoice caused him to forfeit the chance to profit from his work through the song.
Ditto displayed a flash drive containing audio and videos of the advertisements he objects to, as well as the music for which he asserts that he is the rightful copyright holder.
Mr. Mlano Mlekano, the attorney for MultiChoice Tanzania, questioned the validity of the evidence, nevertheless.
Ditto is a bongo flavor artist, singer and writer from The House Of Talent famously known in Dar es Salaam Tanzania.
