The Top 10 Most used Social Networks, Apps & Online Services in Tanzania and Data Rates used (January - September 2022):
On 25th October 2022, The Tanzania Communications Authority (TCRA) issued a report on the performance of the Communication sector for the first quarter of the financial year 2022/23 which has specified the the Top 10 Most used Social Networks, Apps & Online Services in Tanzania in the country and led to a large amount of data that has been consumed respectively.
Below is the List which show the respective Social Network/ App / Online Service & Data Consumed :-
1. Facebook: 2.59 Billion GB
2. Youtube : 1.91Billion GB
3. WhatsApp : 1.58 Billion GB
4. Tik Tok : 999 Million GB
5. Instragram : 531 Million GB
6. Netflix: 256 Million GB
7. BitTorrent : 161 Million GB
8. File Transfer : 151 Million GB
9. Google Play: 115 Million GB
10. Telegram : 105 Million GB
About TCRA:
The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) is a statutory regulatory body responsible for regulating the electronic and postal communication sector in Tanzania. It was established under the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Act No.12 of 2003, which merged the Tanzania Communications Commission (TCC) and Tanzania Broadcasting Commission (TBC).

Tanzania Communications Commission (TCC) was established in 1993 with the mandate of regulating the telecommunications and postal services. Tanzania Broadcasting Commission (TBC) was established in 1993 with the mandate of regulating the broadcasting sector.
Following technological advancement, the need to streamline government services for better public service delivery, minimizing bureaucracy, increasing efficiency, the two regulatory bodies (TCC and TBC) were merged in 2003 to form Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA).
The Authority became operational on 1st November, 2003 and effectively took over the functions of the merged two Commissions. This is mandated by section 4 (1) to (7) of the TCRA Act, 2003.
