Mbwana Samatta Returns to KRC Genk on Loan

Mbwana Samatta Returns to KRC Genk on Loan.Belgian Club Racing Genk announced Tuesday the return of  Mbwana Ally Samatta, 4th top scorer in its history. The 29-year-old Tanzanian striker was loaned until the end of the season, with an option to buy from the Turkish Club Fenerbahçe S.K.

It was in Genk that Samatta discovered Europe. Arrived from the Congolese club TP Mazembe in January 2016, he wore the colors of Racing until January 2020, scoring 76 goals and 20 assists in the space of 191 matches. He then moved on to Aston Villa  but the striker failed to break through in the Premier League, with 2 goals in 16 appearances in all competitions.

The Villans sent him on loan to Fenerbahçe S.K in September 2020 before acquiring him permanently just under a year later. The pattern repeated itself in Istanbul. Indeed, the Tanzanian international on 68 appearances (22 goals) was transferred on a loan basis to Royal Antwerp last season. At the Great Old, Samatta scored 9 goals and delivered 5 assists in 39 matches.

Mbwana Samatta Returns to KRC Genk. This new loan, to Genk, with an option to buy, allows Samatta to return to the club where he shone for four years. He had notably scored 23 goals in 38 league matches during the Genk  title run in 2019.

With 76 goals for Racing, Samatta could soon overtake Wesley Sonck (80) in the club's top scorer rankings. Branko Strupar (106) and Jelle Vossen (105) occupy the first two places in this ranking.

Genk, who won 1-4 at Zulte Waregem on Sunday, is in second place in D1 with a record of 9 points out of 12. On Saturday, Wouter Vrancken's team will host Cercle de Bruges (15th, 4 pts).
