Benjamin Mkapa Stadium Manager Sacked. Tanzania's Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports, Hon. Mohamed Mchengerwa today, August 9, 2022 has instructed the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports. Dr. Hassan Abbasi to assign other duties to Benjamin Mkapa Stadium Manager, Mr. Gordon Nsajigwa.

Information provided by Dr. Abbasi says that the manager is to be assigned other duties for failing to manage the sustainable use of the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

Explaining the implementation of the order, he has said that procedures have already begun to assign other duties and the position is expected to be filled immediately.

It was only in March 2022 that Njasigwa was named as Stadium Manager of the month by TFF , Tanzanian Football Federation.

Recently there has been complaints from fans attending games at the stadium about the state of facilities such as toilets there.

The multi-use Benjamin Mkapa Stadium is situated in Tanzania's Dar es Salaam's Miburani Ward in the Temeke District. It was constructed next to Uhuru Stadium, the old national stadium, and opened in 2007. It serves as the venue for important football events including the Tanzanian Premier League and home games for the Tanzania national team.

It is the largest stadium in Tanzania and the ninth largest stadium in all of Africa with 60,000 seats. The Tanzanian government owns it. Beijing Construction Engineering Group spent $56 million building the stadium.
